My choreography reel features works from two separate projects. I had the amazing opportunity to choreograph for my freshman cabaret, where I co-choreographed the opening number, “Another Day of Sun” from La La Land and created a gender-bent "Cell Block Tango." Inspired by my work in the cabaret, I led a 20-minute choreographic exploration during ShenCoLab, a festival at Shenandoah Conservatory, in the spring. This ShenCoLab project, presented to the public in 2024, explores how altering gender presentation within iconic musical theater numbers can recontextualize and offer new perspectives on these pieces.

For the "Big Spender" number, I chose to gender-bend the roles to showcase the diversity in male sensuality, ranging from traditionally masculine to effeminate presentations. This approach highlights the power and sensuality inherent in all forms of male expression. Similarly, by changing the gender from male to female in the "Cool" dance number from West Side Story, I sought to reinterpret a canonical piece rooted in male strength, demonstrating how women can also embody power through the movement and choreography of this classic song and dance style.

In the final excerpt, "Bring On The Men," I wanted a piece that would explore more androgynous movement. I chose this number because of its tango and ballroom feel, allowing me to play with classic gender roles while also changing who leads and follows throughout the piece.
